Local Chippenham MP Michelle Donelan Attends the Grand Opening of New Kitchen
The complex was officially opened in a blue ribbon cutting ceremony by Chippenham MP Michelle Donelan.
She said the M4 was such a busy and important traffic route nationally that she was exceptionally proud of the forward thinking and health conscious approach the Pit Stop had taken to feeding the UK’s transport industry.
“I brought former Road Minister Jesse Norman here earlier to highlight the Pit Stop’s healthy and locally sourced food and health awareness campaigns. I wish David Hatherell and his team the very best of luck and I look forward to seeing other businesses replicate this model”
Michelle and other VIP guests later tucked into butties filled with the Pit Stop’s recently introduced and locally sourced dry cured bacon produced without food colouring and nitrate preservatives which have been linked to bowel cancer.

Carefully Phased Programme of Works to Avoid Customer Disruption
Managing Director David Hatherell said the whole extension had been completed in twenty weeks with his six strong catering crew still managing to prepare and serve around 30,000 meals while the work went on around them.
“It was a great team effort with our contractors Wilkins Builders of Calne and the Pit Stop team working to a carefully phased programme which all went according to plan, although it was pretty hectic at times,” he said,
“We also continued serving our customers from surrounding villages who are making a growing use of our Draycot Community Stores,” said David.
An Awarding Winning Commercial Filling Station and Services with Parking on the M4
The Pit Stop, just off Junction 17 of the M4 in Wiltshire, serves around three hundred truckers a day and has scooped a trio of transport industry awards for its ongoing efforts to improve their stopover experience once they have pulled off the road.
This includes more healthy eating options, advice on combating illnesses likely to inflict those who spend long hours behind the wheel, and on site exercise facilities.
Family Friendly Truckstop Open for Everyone to Enjoy
The Pit Stop is not just your average truckstop. It is unusual in that all are welcome to enjoy their facilities and the service station has become an important part of the local community with families and drivers alike all enjoying the excellent home cooked locally sourced food. The restaurant has been commended for their range of healthy options and is incredibly popular with drivers from across the UK and Europe.
